I am sorry for the reupload, I took the good advice offered me and got rid of the distracting border and have sent it on to
the_challenge to see what I can learn from them. Go check it out and take a look at the entries, there are some really good ones there. Thank you creativefire for mentioning it. I had looked at that contest awhile ago, but I had forgotten the topic is time.

I suddenly realized where Slavador Dali received his inspiration and why. :D

Now, as to my motivation -

Time slips away from me so quickly and it is so precious due to my lack of it. This is what I am sure that time - if it were pictured in my life - would look like. Dissolving into melted shapes and distorted images, some remembered, some half-remembered, some forgotten, some beaten up, some abused, some painted over so that they may be hidden, some reflected and refracted into the lives of others, some dark spots, some not relevant and most of it beautiful - colored in the golds of memories and the warmth of sunny days. When I saw this reflection, I just knew that I had to take this photograph to express my love/hate relationship with the word time and my search for meaning behind it. Also it fascinates me to think about how old this watch is, and how the owner carried this watch daily and it was such a huge part of his life, keeping him on time for the thousands of things that fill up the days and weeks and months and years. And yet this beautiful companion passed the time of his death once a year without a whisper. This helps me to remember to make the most of each day that is given to me, as I hope it reminds you.

Cheers.
Loretta

dude...you're the mostest awesomest photographer in the world. You have this innate sense of what makes a good picture. And wow this is good. Sorry, I'm just currently very impressed and in awe of my new hero in life, you ;)

Shall I tell you the secret of the whole world...?

You are making me  Thank you for your kind words. Lately I have been having so many ideas and thoughts about things to photograph. I am so happy when I have my camera in hand, it helps me forget my menial factory job and it opens my eyes to the beauty that is everywhere. Like this pocket watch, I never realized that I would see this reflection and when I did see it I was taken by the Alice in Wonderland like reflections, I just had to photograph it!

I really love this shot  - very creative, interesting and well executed! I have been looking at it for ages - excellent job! one little thing niggles me with it though, and I really hope you don't mind me saying - but the large title and font seems to over power and somewhat detract from this beautiful piece a bit too much - as it would stand so well just on its own or with something smaller IMHO

but I can live with it as it is definitely a :fav+: :D

I don't mind at all. I am new to the digital world and I think sometimes I get so excited by what I am doing that I forget to look closely at the image and really anaylze it. I need some distance from whatever it is that I am working on, and then flaws in the design will usually pop out at me. I was secretly begginning to wonder if I had gone overboard on the title with this. I notice that when I look at it my eyes travel downwards to the heavy weighted bottom and the gold bold lettering. Thank you for the fav and the constructive comment, anytime that you notice anything that didn't quite work, I welcome the input. I want to get better, and it is hard to get better when I am to close to the piece to see it objectively. :D

:)smile cuz I say so:)

Believe it or not, this is the way it was. The only thing I did was crop it just a little bit to get the reflection of the surface it was sitting on off of the composistion and tweaked the yellow channel and red channel just a little bit, about +2 in highlights and shadows, other than that this is the exact way I photographed it. The gold surface that clicks away from the face inside the watch is wavy, and that is what made the cool effects. The minute hand has white paint on it, because someone had enameled this watch - I really don't know why. My dad really worked to get the enamel off of it. I just love this watch, the works inside the back look really good, too - but this was my favorite shot. Thank you for the fav! :D

Wow. I must say you've hit a milestone with this shot. You've just taken the art of photography, and mixed it completely with metaphorical imagery, in such a way that makes people think about art and its beauty. Now to analyze the photo; the positioning of the object is perfect, because of it's imperfection. It's not a view dead on, a portrait of its lifetime, but more another angle to show it has more than you normally see. The colors are well defined. I like how you fixed it up on photoshop, not just tweaking it to look better, but showing people what it really looks like. Most of the time a digital cameras jpeg conversion and it's image processiong never gets it's color balancing correct, so by doing what you have, you show us what it really is. The only thing I personally would change is the border and font scheme; thats just me and my opinion, I like to have things crisp and proportioned, like in an art gallery. You did an awesome job on this :)
